Paperlings - Info Sheet

I've been sitting on these guys for a couple days know, and everyone I've shown them to has seemed to like them so here we go!

Paperlings - The Lantern Based Fae

Paperlings are small Fae that often follow the recently deceased, guiding them through limbo to the Otherlife with the small lanterns on their end. They accompany the soul into the Otherlife, forever to be their guide.
Paperlings can range from the size of a cookie, to a small dog, though smaller is more common. The cheek patches are also known as heat patches, and these keep the paperlings body teperature regulated. They also have these patches on elbows and ankles, along with their pawpads.
They eat small things like grubs, nuts, leaves and fruit, though certain Paperlings have been known to take a liking to sweeter things, such as honey, nectar as well as manmade sweets.
When residing in the physical realm, they often live in secluded places like woodlands, meadows and abandoned barns.

Gender Differences:-

There are not many differences between the different sexes, but the males have a larger Pupil as they prefer hunting at Nighttime, whereas the Females will spend time in the day finding fruits and grubs. The females are also larger than the males, as they are the protectors of the growing children, after the males have nursed them from birth. Both parents are actively involved in a childs life.

Lantern Information:-

All Paperlings have lanterns, though there are many shapes, colors and sizes of lantern. These lanterns house the Paperlings Soul, and if the lantern is broken or removed, the Paperling fades, their soul fading to join with their humans. Once the human has died and passed to the Otherlife, the Paperlings soul separates again. The smoke that erupts from the lantern is completely at the Paperlings will, and acts like a physical tail. On rare occasions, the smoke is thick enough to snag small objects inside.
